The Grenfell Tower fire in June 2017 highlighted the critical importance of effective communication during volatile emergencies. In response to their direct experience at Grenfell, Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service (MFRS) led the approach to modernise emergency communication in the UK, trialling and adopting an advanced public address system, the Vitavox Long-range Speaker (VLS), a cutting-edge technology designed to improve how emergency instructions are delivered during high-rise incidents.

Following these successful trials, MFRS officially integrated the Vitavox system into its emergency response toolkit. The system is now a key component of their strategy for high-rise fire incidents, providing a reliable means of communication that enhances both resident safety and operational efficiency.
MFRS’s adoption of this technology sets a new standard for emergency readiness. The integration of long-range speakers offers a proactive solution to one of the most pressing safety challenges highlighted by Grenfell.
