The Grenfell Tower fire in June 2017 was a devastating tragedy, and one of the significant issues contributing to the high number of casualties was the lack of effective communication with the residents during the incident. The inability to notify and instruct residents on how to evacuate or seek safety measures exacerbated the situation.

Following the incident, Merseyside Fire and Rescue took the initiative to address communication challenges during emergencies. They explored potential solutions to improve communication in high-rise buildings and trial-tested the Vitavox Long-range Speaker system. This equipment was designed to overcome communication barriers in emergency situations:

Long-range projection:

The Vitavox Long-range Speaker has the capability to project sound up to and even beyond 500 meters, providing a wide coverage area for broadcasting important messages.

Wireless connectivity:

It can connect multiple units wirelessly, allowing for a broader sound footprint, ensuring that emergency announcements can reach a larger area.

Pre-recorded messages:

The system allows pre-recording and instant playback of important messages, ensuring quick dissemination of crucial information during emergencies.

External and internal positioning:

These speakers can be strategically positioned externally at critical points around a building or internally in areas like stairwells to effectively broadcast messages throughout the structure.

The trial of this equipment by Merseyside Fire and Rescue demonstrates their commitment to exploring innovative solutions for improving communication and emergency response strategies in high-rise buildings, aiming to prevent such tragic incidents and enhance public safety in the future.
