BLASTPROOF AND SHOCKPROOF WATERTIGHT NAVAL LOUDSPEAKERS
2.5, 10, 20 Watt WATERTIGHT NAVAL LOUDSPEAKERS
NSN 5965-99-537-2183 (VQ85496) & 5965-99-537-2184 (VQ85490)
These loudspeakers for ships, which are current Royal Navy stock
items, are primarily for naval use both above and below deck. They
comply with the relevant British Standards and UK MoD (Navy)
specifications. They are for general use above deck and are also used
below deck in noisy areas, such as near propulsion machinery and
helicopter loading bays.
They have been type tested by the Royal Navy to 70 G
force. This demonstrates their effectiveness in battle conditions where
they are able to withstand close proximity explosions and damage. Main
broadcast reliability is an essential safety requirement on warships.
They also have the critical benefit of being designed and proven to be
blast and shockwave proof. This is necessary for both battle conditions
and battle simulation where even firing of the ship’s own surface to
air missiles will destroy the diaphragm of normal marine
loudspeakers.
These marine loudspeakers are used extensively
throughout the UK, Australian and New Zealand navies’ and are the main
above deck loudspeakers used by the Royal Navy. Their sheer durability
and reliability makes them the best choice for communication safety.
They are driven via a built in matching transformer
or by a 10 watt amplifier, powered from a 24V DC supply. Provision is
made in loudspeakers with transformer to reduce output power to 2.5
Watt.
To prevent acoustic feedback problems, the amplifier may be muted from a number of local microphones.
The main Broadcast and Intercom Loudspeakers are of similar
mechanical construction and are built, in a form of high efficiency
260mm dia. compact re-entrant horn, from aluminium alloy die-cast
sections, bolted together and sealed with ‘O’ ring gaskets.
The front section (Flare) of the loudspeaker’s enclosure contains
the pressure unit. The rear section (Case) is fitted with either a line
matching transformer or an amplifier.
Cable entries are through two gland nuts.
All loudspeaker units are fitted with preset Volume Control, accessible after removal of the pressure relief plug.
The mounting facility is by means of three equispaced lugs, each with a 9.8mm hole on a 238mm PCD.
All electrical wiring is isolated from the metal case of the
loudspeaker. All parts are mechanically and electrically
interchangeable.
