Rubber Covered Handheld

The Type B60 Microphone, which incorporates a moving coil inset of 25 ohm impedance, is completely watertight and is intended for use in exposed conditions. The microphone is designed for convenient use in the gloved hand and the construction is of a particularly robust nature throughout, able to withstand heavy handling and complete immersion in water.

The microphone casing is constructed of aluminium alloy die-cast sections, assembled together, and enclosed in the rubber cover, NSN 5965-99-462-4509, which can be removed, should it be necessary to replace either inset or cable. The spring-loaded “Press to Speak” switch, NSN 5820-99-425-3285, for series switching, or NSN 5820-99-425-3289 for shunt switching of the microphone inset, is operated through the rubber cover and switches “ON” the microphone inset and relay circuit. Cable fitted is 2.0m long, but the microphone will operate with cable length of up to 150m maximum. No termination is provided.

The wiring, except the screen of the fitted cable, is electrically isolated from the metal casing. All parts are mechanically and electrically interchangeable.

Operational Specification

Produced to comply with the requirements of DEF-133, Class N2 and currently Admiralty Specifications. Version VT09844 NSN 5965-99-773-9582 is also approved by the British Approval Service for Electrical Equipment in Flammable Atmosphere (SIRA Cert. M0953) for use in potentially hazardous areas, when installed in accordance with Drawing No. 1563, “Installation Condition” to comply with the requirements of BS 1259: 1958 (with amendments 1 t0 7) for gases of Classes 2a, 2c, 2d and 2e.
